With reference to paragraph 1 of my despatch No.

184 of the 29th May on the subject of allowances to Assistant School Mistresses, I have the honour to report that I authorised the grant of allowances in lieu of free quarters at the rate of 8600 per annum to Miss Henderson and Miss Cooper as from the 16th September and to Miss Holmes as from the 3rd November, 1914. These ladies experienced considerable difficulty in securing accommodation at reasonable rates and I decided in anticipation of your sanction, to concede them the allowance at an earlier date than that originally fixed in your telegram of the 24th May, namely the 1st January, 1916.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Am

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
